TEST YOUR LIGHTNING IQ!

Lightning is dangerous and no one is safe outdoors when thunderstorms and lightning are near. There are up to 24,000 deaths per year related to lightning globally [Holle, 2016], and it is important to stay alert and prepared.

Earlier this year at the AMS Annual Meeting, Vaisala invited attendees to test their lightning IQ, and learn more about lightning safety, as well as Vaisala lightning detection technologies. Now you can test your lightning IQ by taking the quiz! Answer a few brief questions, and see how well you score.

Be prepared:

Protect yourself and others from the dangers of lightning. Here are some tips to stay safe:
• Know the forecast
• Be ready to stop or cancel activities
• Do NOT become a victim by thinking, "It won't happen to me."
• Move to safety as soon as you hear thunder or see lightning
• Safe locations are substantial buildings or enclosed, metal-topped vehicles
• Wait 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder to resume outdoor activities
